We were born to create. I believe that God created us in His image and that like our Creator, we were designed to give birth to all things beautiful. Think about it. We all have the ability to create beauty in a number of forms, the written word, music, photography, art, food, architectural design, jewelry, clothing, gardening, home decor, you name it. The list goes on and on. The problem is that most of us never realize our potential. Either we’ve never had the time or opportunity to figure out what our gifts are, or we’ve buried it under years of “other obligations”. What better time than now, as women who’ve reached our most productive years, than to explore the things that have always interested us but we’ve never had the time to pursue.
I started this blog as a creative outlet. For years I’ve felt stifled but I couldn’t quite figure out why. It certainly wasn’t a reflection of work or family because I’m blessed to have a great family and work that’s low stress and flexible. It took me a while to figure it out, but like most things it came from a series of messages from different people and situations. I just had to be open and present to receive them. Once I put the pieces together, I realized that I needed an outlet to express my creative energy which I had suppressed for years. Not on purpose, but because I have responsibilities like everyone else. Like most women, family has always come first and I’ve always made sure that the needs of my family were met before I pursued my personal interests. Now that my daughter is older and more independent, I feel much more comfortable taking time for me. I have no idea if anyone reads my posts besides my mom, daughter, and a few friends, but I feel good about this form of expression because it allows me to share the things that I enjoy while exercising my creativity in writing and photography. If someone else happens to have the same interests and stumbles across this blog then I hope they are inspired. If not, then that’s okay too. I believe that seeds never fall without producing fruit. So if my mom takes pride in her daughter’s creative accomplishments, or my daughter is inspired by her mom’s blog to pursue her own dreams, or I say something to inspire one of my friends to step into their creativity, then mission accomplished.
What’s your creative gift? Share it, the world will be better for it.
