Have you ever heard the expression that “the clothes make the man”? Well I believe that it’s the accessories that make the woman. More specifically our shoes and handbags. All too often you see women wearing shoes that give telltale signs that they’ve outlived their season. How can you tell? Well for one, usually the first thing designers change when debuting a new line of shoes is either the toe or the heel. The more extreme they are, the shorter the shelf life. For instance, if the trend this season happens to be square toed pumps or an exaggerated platform, chances are that within a season or two, the shoe will look extremely dated once pointy-toed pumps and moderate heels are back in vogue. It’s much easier to latch onto a lot of these trends when you’re in your twenties, but once you become a woman of a “certain age” it’s best to stick with the classics unless the unique and quirky speak to your style sensibilities. Don’t get me wrong though, you can still be classic without being boring. Take a look at these beauties.
Handbags are another accessory that should be upgraded once we’ve become mature women. I know that many of us don’t have time to think about this overused accessory and we just use it to schlep around everything but the kitchen sink. As a result, the handles become frayed and torn and the exterior takes a beating. But nothing upgrades your look like a gorgeous handbag. This doesn’t mean that you should spend one month’s salary on a purse, but you should invest in a quality leather bag. There’s something really chic about a woman in jeans, tank top, jacket and killer handbag. Personally, I love the quality of Italian leather handbags and have always been able to find some really beautiful ones at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx for a fraction of their original price.
