Step Away From the Flip-Flops . . . Please!

Okay, I’m sorry but I just have to vent. I know it may seem petty, but one of my biggest pet peeves is seeing people wear flip-flops for occasions in which they were never intended. Maybe I’m just old school or just old. While driving to work this morning, I cannot tell you how many well dressed women that I saw walking to their offices or the metro wearing flip-flops and I’m not talking cute ones either. I’m talking about the rubber ones that we used to wear as kids. Now before you accuse me of being a snob, let me explain why I feel this way. I’ve heard people say time and again that these rubber flip-flops are comfortable and who cares what they look like if you’re just wearing them to the office and not in the office. Okay, point taken. But let me provide a counterpoint. Flip-flops are not functional. They’re not even cute. Living in an urban area such as the District of Columbia where at a moments notice you could be faced with an evacuation (possible), breakdown on the metro (highly probable) or even having someone step on or roll over your feet with their suitcase or work bag (pretty much guaranteed) it makes no sense to wear such a shoe and these are just the practical reasons. Don’t even get me started on the lack of aesthetics. Anywhoo, if you’re still not convinced that you can do better, take a look at these babies. I think they’re pretty and exotic and definitely a much nicer alternative to the rubber throw-aways.
