One of the things that I love about springtime is that it signals new beginnings. This time of year fills me with a renewed sense of purpose and inspires me to be creative. In my very first post, I mentioned that it took me a while to start this blog. Many times we let our fears take over and keep us from moving forward. You would think that after two decades of marriage, raising a child and excelling professionally, it would be easy to take a chance but somehow as we get older it becomes more difficult. Even when we know it’s in our best interest to shake things up we hold on to what we know and become stagnate as a result. When we resist change, we can never become our best selves or fully evolve as God intended and that stagnation begins to show on the outside as well. Not only how we look but how we treat others. We lose that lightness of being and everything becomes a chore. It’s not until we find that thing that makes our heart sing and we inch towards it or make a mad dash for it, that we begin to feel the weight lift from our shoulders.
As grown women of color we have so much offer the world. Many of us have stifled our voices along the way as we’ve worked towards building strong families and successful careers. Don’t get me wrong, that kind of dedication is necessary and commendable but at the end of the day we need to have something left for ourselves. We need to live fully and authentically. What feeds your soul? Take a minute today to find out what inspires you and take that first step towards your new beginning.
Peace and Blessings
